Reception Class at Coquet Park

Who are we? 

We're the 4 and 5 year olds in our first year of big school.  It's good because we have Year Four friends to help us at playtimes and assemblies in case we get lost or need a friend to play with.  They first meet us when we're in Nursery.

What do we do in class?

We follow the Foundation Stage and National Curriculum for our lessons.  Many of our activities are practical and often involve paint and making a mess.  As the year goes on we put more work into our books which we show to mum and dad at the end of the year and on parents night.  In the first term we have a sound book and learn one letter sound a night - did you know there are about 42 sounds in the English Language?  We also have a reading book which we read at home and in school.  In the Spring term we even begin to learn some spellings!

Every year our favourite lessons are P.E. especially when we use the big apparatus and any messy activity.  We also really like using the interactive whiteboard.  Our P.E. days are Monday and Thursday, in the Spring term we also go swimming at the leisure pool every Monday.

On a Monday we can choose a book from the school library to take home for the week - we have a lot of lovely stories.
