Year Three at Coquet Park

Who are we?

Hello! We are Year 3 and we have just started Key Stage 2. This year we will begin to take greater responsibility for our learning and ourselves. We will be encouraged to develop our thinking and investigative skills to help us to learn and discover things on our own. This will allow us to work with greater independence and increasing confidence. We will also be expected to share our thoughts and ideas and to take responsibility for others. We will help to look after some of the younger children in school. At the end of the year look forward to meeting our ‘buddies’ in the Nursery class and introducing them to the main part of the school.

What do we do in class?

We follow the objectives of the National Curriculum. Although a strong emphasis is placed on English and Maths all subjects are taught through a creative, topic based syllabus. This helps us to link together ideas from different subject areas and to make our learning more memorable and fun. Throughout the year we will develop our skills in all areas of the curriculum through topics such as People, health and relationships, Christmas and other festivals, The local area, outdoors and communications. We keep ourselves fit and healthy through P.E lessons each Tuesday and Wednesday. We enjoy having the opportunity to try a variety of team games, dance, and gymnastics. At the beginning of the Spring term we will also continue with our swimming lessons. We are expected to extend our learning at home through weekly homework linked to work done in class. We will also continue to develop our enjoyment of reading through home reading books and visiting the school library each week.
